We all want to become a better person. For the religious among us, that desire might manifest itself in something like going to church more often or reading their bible more frequently. Others try harder still to improve themselves. Still, no matter how hard we try, we often fall short of our lofty goals and dreams of self-improvement. What are we doing wrong?
This article is designed to help you become a better person, not just for one week, but over the course of 7 days. If you set out with us on this journey towards self-improvement, at its conclusion I guarantee that you will have experienced dramatic change! So grab your bible and keep on reading…
1. Spend more time in the Bible every day
To begin our journey towards becoming a better person, we need to turn to the Good Book itself for guidance. Are you spending enough time reading your bible? If not, you are at least partially responsible for your own lack of self-improvement! You cannot be invigorated by your faith if you are not spending enough time with the Lord.
So how much time should ideally be spent in bible study? Well, it depends on each individual, but I recommend at least an hour of bible study every day. If you want to become a better person and grow closer to God, more than that might be better! Can’t spare an hour? Then at least try to read for 30 minutes or even 15 if that is all you can manage.
2. Pray every day and listen to God speak back to you
A prayer is a powerful tool in your search for becoming a better person, so why not take the time today and pray to God? He loves to hear from you and as such, He often speaks back to us in our prayers. You can learn a lot by listening to what God has to say when no one else is around.
3. Do something for someone who will never be able to repay you
Of all the things that you might do in order to become better, this suggestion might be the most difficult for you to implement. The concept is simple though: do something nice for someone without any expectation of being repaid in return. That’s right, don’t even expect a thank you!
You might have heard this before, but why go through life expecting to receive nothing in return for your hard work and kindness? If you want to become a better person, give without expecting anything in return. Trust me, it works!
4. Take the time each day to think about what you are thankful for
How often do you stop and take the time to reflect on everything that you have? Probably not often enough if you truly want to become a better person. We all have a lot to be thankful for if we only make the effort to take the time and look. Take a few moments each day throughout your week to reflect upon everything that you are grateful for in your life up until this point.
5. Exercise more, eat less!
Did you realize that becoming a better person is not entirely dependent on what you do or don’t do? Sometimes it is how you think and feels that determines who you become as people. If you want to become a better person, lose weight by exercising more and eating less!
6. Be honest with others always even when it might hurt them
Every single day we get opportunities to be dishonest in either big or small ways. We might even think that being dishonest is the right thing to do in certain cases, but it will only hurt you if you want to become a better person.
If there’s something that you need to tell another person, then just be honest with them! Honesty is always best in the long run, no matter how difficult it may prove to be.
7. Learn how to forgive those who have done you wrong
If you are searching for ways that will help you become a better person, then one of the best things you can do is learn how to forgive those who have hurt you in the past. Letting go of your anger and resentment towards others will free up your time for more constructive activities.
So how exactly do you go about learning forgiveness? Well, that is something that I can’t tell you, but if you want to become a better person then it’s certainly something worth looking into!
