Sailing without a map is too dangerous. Life without a direction to follow will surely fail. For Christian believers, the Bible is the guide not just to life but to an abundant life.
The Bible is a holy book to the majority. To some denominations, only the righteous and chosen can touch and hold the book. To Christians, the Bible is the word of God, it is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16). Everything written on it is from God. Every word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12, NIV). Every word has power. These alone can be factors for people to believe in it, but what really are the reasons why Christians believe in it, live by it, and trust this “Word of God”?
Reasons Why Christians Believe the Bible
The Bible is the blueprint for Christian believers. It is the ready-made plan for you from the Lord. This is the guide that contains the direction for you to follow. This doesn’t give you the places to go, the people to talk to, or the decisions to make but this will allow your heart to hear from the Lord the very will He has for you.
Psalm 119:105 says the Word is “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
What a privilege it is to be living and walking this life with guidance from our Father from above. All we need to do is to read and meditate in His words that are made accessible to us. His very word is like a lamp to our feet that will guide every step we have so we will not trip down. A lamp that does not fully enlighten our way but gives just enough light to help us navigate. And His word is like a light to our path leading us the pathway to the true life.
Relying on God’s word is the key to abundant life as a Christian. It is the only way for us to experience the fullness of life.
Listed below are some reasons why Christians continue to take hold of the bible and acknowledge its authority over their lives.
The Bible is Reliable and Trustworthy

Whenever you are sad, heavenly laden, broken-hearted, in sorrow, or in pain, the bible gives comfort.
2 Corinthians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
If you are facing crossroads, and making hard decisions in life, the bible brings peace.
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
When you are hopeless, the words from the bible give you hope.
Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Whatever situation you are in, the words you will get from the bible will support you and can always be dependable.
The Bible Contains Stories of Miracles

Water into wine, the Red Sea part, the lame man walk, and the blind see. These are a few of the many miracles that happened and were recorded in the bible. Having read all these Christian believers continue to believe in the God that made these miracles happen. Their focus of faith is not on the miracles but on the giver of the miracles.
Since the bible is a collection of stories that happened long ago, it gives Christians hope and confidence that whatever has happened before can happen again. Whatever miracles the Lord has performed before He can do it again.
The stories of breakthroughs, miracles, and triumphs make Christians believe more and more in the bible and the words it says. The more they know the blessings of the Lord, the more they know God and that is what makes Christians love the Lord and the scripture more.
The Bible can Change Lives

Testimonies have been a powerful tool to usher people to Christ and stir them to know more about Him. Testimonies are often backed up by stories of how they met Jesus through the reading of the word and how meditating on it changes them inside out. The word of the Lord powered by the Holy Spirit made a way to soften the hearts of its readers and start living a life of obedience to Christ.
No one can ever stand against one’s testimony of God’s redemption and resurrection in their life. And Christians getting to know more of stories like these keep them closer and deeper to believing the bible, the very word of Christ.
A changed life has always been strong evidence of the power of the bible.
Jesus Himself Trusted the Bible

Lastly, Christians believe in the bible because Jesus himself exemplified His trust in the bible. When the Pharisees asked Jesus about marriage and divorce, Jesus point them back to the word, ““Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator `made them male and female,” (Matthew 19:5) When Satan tempted Jesus, He replied referring to what was written on the word, “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4)
Jesus himself knows that the answers to questions are found in the bible and that His weapon to put down the enemy is the word of the Lord. He himself has confidence in the scripture because He knows it is God-breathed, it’s from the Father.
On our own, we can do nothing, but trusting in the God-given words of the Lord made available for us can make our lives flourish and prosper. Reading the Bible is very important in our Christian walk but believing in it, and keeping it as the authority in our lives is another thing. We must learn to see the weight of reading, meditating, and obeying God’s word. As Christians, this is the foundation of our faith. This will direct us into fulfilling the purposes of the Lord in our lives. When we miss out on this, we will miss out on God’s beautiful plan for us. But when we faithfully cooperate in this discipline, God might be able to even use us for His glory, for His purpose.
We are called in fellowship with the Father. That’s the very message of the Gospel. Not only that Jesus died for our sins so we can be saved, but also He saved us so we can be reunited with the Father. The message is clear, the Father longs to be in fellowship and union with us. Reading the bible and believing in it will help us be closer to the Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus like never before. After all, as Christians, our goal is to be Christ-like and it starts when we fill our hearts and minds with His words daily.
Let it be clear that reading the bible and believing in it is not just a task for us. We hope it will be an overflow as you continue to receive and experience the love of our Father.
