One of the most beautiful and rewarding experiences of our life may also be one of the most challenging—marriage—and how God can fix your marriage.

No gift of God to man is more glorious than marriage. It is a sacred bond that is blessed by divine power, a bond designed to be unbreakable. Yet, despite the love and effort of two married people, challenges arise. However, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially for Christians who know we live in a fallen world.

Are you a Christian struggling with your marriage right now? When a marriage is in chaos, knowing where to turn for help can be difficult. But don’t lose hope. Let God fix your marriage. The Bible says, “with God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). If you believe, God can fix your marriage.

In this article, we will explore the practical steps couples can take to restore their relationship with the guidance and support of God. We will discuss the importance of effective communication, forgiveness, and seeking guidance from God through prayer and reading the Bible. Remember, with God’s help, anything is possible.

God’s Stand on Marriage

God’s stand on marriage is clear: it is a holy union between a man and a woman. In Genesis 2:24, we read, “Therefore a man shall put away his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” This verse highlights the value of marriage as a union between two people. The idea of becoming one flesh emphasizes the intimacy and closeness a husband and wife should share.

That marriage is a lifelong commitment isn’t man’s idea but God’s. In Matthew 19:6, Jesus says, “So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Divorce may be rampant nowadays, but it was never God’s plan for a married couple to separate. Marriage is so sacred and holy that it joins two unique individuals as if they are now one entity.

God does not treat divorce lightly but encourages couples to work through their issues and seek help when needed. His plan for marriage is also one of love and respect. Ephesians 5:33 states, “let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

There’s a saying that goes, “It takes two to tango.” Indeed, in marriage, it’s not only the husband alone or the wife alone who puts in the effort to ensure the relationship remains strong. Each has a role to play, and when one fails to play that role, the relationship crumbles.

Only God Can Heal You

The wounds you receive from conflicts with your spouse may seem minor initially, but if left untreated, these wounds can grow and lead to a loss of trust and feelings of insecurity. Over time, the pain of these wounds can become worse as they continue to accumulate. Eventually, it can become hard to remember how the cycle of hurt began, and all that remains are deep wounds that require healing.

However, we often turn to the wrong sources to receive healing from marital wounds. Even Christians forget that only Christ is the balm that can heal their wounds and follow the ways of the world to receive healing.

What’s worse is that many couples fall into the lie that it is their spouse who can remove their pain since they are the ones who have inflicted emotional injury in the first place. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Bible says that cursed is the man who trusts in man. If you rely solely on the ability of your spouse to do right, you have a huge chance of getting disappointed.

On the contrary, if you let God fix your marriage, you can guarantee that he will never fail you. God is perfect, and he is the only one who knows what is right for you. He is the Great Physician and the only one who can heal you.

Fixing Your Marriage with God’s Guidance

When working to restore a struggling marriage, it is vital to turn to God for guidance and support. Here are five practical steps to help restore your marriage with God’s guidance.

The Power of Prayer

Praying with your spouse for God to fix your marriage can be a powerful and meaningful way to strengthen your relationship. When you pray together, you are not only asking for God’s help and guidance but also committing to actively working on your relationship and being open to the changes and growth that God may bring.

If your spouse refuses to participate in praying together, it can be difficult and disappointing. However, it’s important to remember that you can still pray on your own for your marriage.

In any case, it’s important to remember that you can’t force someone to pray or want to pray. The best way to handle this situation and let God fix your marriage is to pray for your spouse and your marriage and for the Lord to open their hearts and minds to the benefits of praying together.

Trusting God by Seeking Therapy

Many Christians refuse to go to a marriage counselor or therapist, believing that it goes against the idea of depending on God alone. However, putting your trust in God is not limited to praying and reading the Bible. Moreover, the Bible itself is filled with passages encouraging one to seek counsel from the wise, and this includes marriage therapists. The key is to find one who shares your faith and uses biblical principles in their approach.

It Takes Two: Owning Up to Your Mistake

Owning up to your part in a marital problem is crucial for resolving conflicts and improving the relationship. It shows responsibility and a willingness to take steps to resolve the issue. When you and your partner take responsibility for your actions, it creates a foundation of trust and mutual respect that can strengthen the bond between the two of you.

This takes humility, which allows you to acknowledge your flaws and shows that you are willing to learn and grow. When you approach conflicts with humility, you open yourself up to constructive criticism, leading to more effective communication.

The Role of Forgiveness

In Ephesians 4:32, Paul wrote, “Forgive, just as God forgave you.” Forgiveness plays a crucial role in fixing a marriage. When conflicts arise, and mistakes are made, it is the key to moving forward. Without forgiveness, bitterness and resentment can linger, causing long-term damage to the relationship.

In a healthy relationship, forgiveness is an ongoing process. Therefore, you and your partner should strive to practice forgiveness regularly, not just in response to specific incidents. That said, let God fix your marriage by forgiving your spouse. By making forgiveness a regular part of your relationship, you can create a strong foundation of trust, compassion, and mutual respect.

A Marathon, Not a Race

Fixing a marriage can be a long and challenging process that requires patience and persistence. Relationships are complex and often involve many interrelated issues that take time to resolve. Therefore, it’s essential to approach the process with a realistic understanding that progress may be slow and that there may be setbacks along the way.

However, fixing a marriage can also be an opportunity for spiritual growth and maturity. Working through relationship issues can help you to develop empathy, compassion, and a deeper understanding of yourself and your partner. It requires the two of you to reflect on your behavior and take responsibility for your actions.

Conclusion

Marriage is a beautiful union between two individuals, but it is not without its challenges. For a marriage to stay strong and healthy, the couple must be willing to put in the effort, patience, and understanding required. However, despite our best efforts, things sometimes don’t work out.

In these moments, it’s important to remember that only God has the power to heal you. So, let God fix your marriage. Amid adversity, placing your faith in Him and following His counsel is the only way to have peace and hope in your union.
