The Sons of God in Genesis 6: Who Are They?

In Genesis 6, we read about the sons of God. But who are they? This is a question that has puzzled Bible scholars for centuries. Some say that they are angels. However, others believe that they are humans who have been exalted to a higher status. In this blog post, we will explore the different interpretations of this passage and see what the Bible has to say about them.

Angels as the Sons of God

The first interpretation is that the sons of God are angels. This view is based on the assumption that angels are spiritual creatures who are not bound by the laws of nature. Therefore, they can intermarry with humans without violating God’s prohibition against incest. This view was popularized by John Calvin, who believed that the union of angels and humans was a sign of God’s grace.

Others believe that the sons of God are humans who have been exalted to a higher status. Additionally, this view is based on the idea that humans were created in the image of God and can become like Him if they are obedient to His laws. In conclusion, this interpretation highlights that the sons of God are righteous men who have been chosen by God to inherit His kingdom.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, which of these interpretations is correct? The Bible does not give us a definitive answer, but it seems that the second interpretation is more plausible. Additionally, this view is supported by the fact that the phrase “sons of God” is used elsewhere in the Bible to refer to humans (see Job 38:28-30). Furthermore, the Bible says that humans are capable of becoming like God if they obey His laws (see Genesis 26:12; Psalm 82:0; John 17:21-22).

So what does this mean for us today? It means that we should not be discouraged if we don’t feel like we measure up to the sons of God in Genesis. Instead, we should strive to become like them by obeying God’s laws and living righteous lives. By doing so, we will inherit His kingdom and enjoy His blessings for eternity.
