There are many ways how to find God’s love in your everyday life. None of these ideas are particularly difficult, nor very time-consuming. If you want to, however, they can be put into practice immediately. It’s usually quite easy to do them over the course of a day. If you want to, they can become a habit in your life.
1. Pray throughout the day.
Praying is a powerful way to find God’s love in your everyday life. Even if you say only a short prayer for five minutes during each hour of the day, that will give you 10 minutes of praying daily–far more than most people do.
If you want to, the prayers don’t have to be long or complicated. You can start each prayer with a short phrase like “Dear Lord” or “Father.” Then just say a few words about what’s going through your mind and heart at that moment, for example, what you’re grateful for, whom you’re thinking about, what you’re concerned about, or any other thoughts that are in your mind.
You can also pray the Lord’s Prayer if you want to, or recite a favorite Bible verse. Or you can just talk with God freely, for example, tell him what you need and ask for his help in specific situations.
2. Say “Thank you” to God throughout the day.
When you realize that God created everything, including yourself, you can see that he’s giving you an amazing gift every moment of every day. The simplest way to express this gratitude is often to say “thank you.” You can do this silently or out loud whenever anything good happens during the course of the day.
3. Practice being grateful throughout the day.
Another powerful way to find God’s love in your everyday life is to practice gratitude as often as you can during the day–in other words, take a few moments from time to time to think about everything you have that’s good and be grateful for it.
You can do this as a written or mental exercise if you want to, but it works just as well if you keep your mind open so that whatever comes into your head is used as a basis for gratitude.
4. Think of someone different to love throughout the day.
When you realize that God’s love never changes and is always available and ready to be poured out on you, it’s easy to understand why people who are truly happy can be loving toward others.
You can find an opportunity for love every day by thinking of someone different, perhaps a coworker or family member, and doing something nice for them that shows your care and affection. For example, you could hold the door open for them if they’re behind you, or give them a smile as you pass them in the hallway.
5. Practice patience throughout the day.
No matter what’s going on around you, whether at work or home, it’s possible to find God’s love by practicing patience throughout the day. If someone is slow to do something for you, take a moment to slow down yourself so that you can think about how to respond.
If it’s appropriate, apologize or do something nice for them in return–or both. You’ll find that people usually appreciate this, and it will help your relationships with others.
6. Practice acceptance throughout the day.
When you practice acceptance toward everyone around you, regardless of their behavior, you can find God’s love in your everyday life. Realize that everyone is doing the best they can with what they’ve got–including yourself–and try to take people as they are instead of seeing only what you’d like them to be.
