The Best Ways to Start the Day as a Christian

Are you a Christian?

Do you want to start your day with God?

Do you want to wake up in the morning, have something on the tip of your tongue that will help guide you throughout your days?

People’s mornings are very different. Some people need that extra hour or two locked into their warm covers enjoying dreamland. Some people need coffee (or something stronger) to get the juices flowing and keep them going until lunchtime. But wouldn’t it be nice if you could start your day by spending some time with God?

The best way to do that is to begin each day with prayer, or meditation on scripture and then move into a morning routine that is centered around your faith in God.

Pray

The first step to starting your day is praying.

Whether you wake up and immediately start praying, or do it before you go to bed each night, if you pray for guidance and wisdom and ask for protection all through the day, you will find yourself inspired and motivated to make good choices.

Meditate on Scripture

start the day

The next step is to meditate on scripture for 15-30 minutes, either first thing in the morning or before you go to bed at night. You don’t have to be a pastor or even well versed in the Bible, but it will help you to read something inspirational each day, even if it’s just one verse. As you meditate on scripture, think about how the tenets of Christianity can be applied in your life and what can do with those ideas as a foundation for your daily activities.

Create a Daily Routine

Creating a daily routine helps you organize your routine so that you can more easily fit prayer and meditation into your daily schedule. Whether you decide to eat breakfast, meditate for 15 minutes before or after taking a shower, or read scripture while eating lunch, once you establish a routine, it will be easier to integrate faith into each day.

Create an Atmosphere of Worship Around Your House

Begin by decorating your house with scripture verses or other items that inspire you or remind you to live according to the Ten Commandments, The Beatitudes, and the Golden Rule. Once you have an environment filled with reminders about your faith, it will be much easier to spend time in prayer and meditation each day.

Take a 15 Minute Break

start the day

If you feel stressed in the middle of the day or when you’re just about to start, take a quick break to meditate or pray for guidance and inspiration. You can either close your eyes and silently commune with God (or Jesus), read something that has inspired you today, or look up an inspiring scripture verse. This will help center yourself and make you feel more in touch with the meaning of your faith.

Consistency

As a Christian, you should try to go to bed and wake up at consistent times each day so that you can have time for praying and meditating. Even if you only take 15 minutes out of your day as “you time” where you focus just on God, it will make a significant difference in the quality of your relationship with Him and help you become more compassionate, patient, and loving.

One of the most important things to remember is that having a daily prayer routine doesn’t mean you have to pray constantly throughout your day! Sometimes it’s nice just to stop for a moment and be silent before God… commune with Him without words. If that’s not for you, then begin each morning with some time in prayer. Whatever works best for you is the right path to take!
