God’s Sense of Humor: Why Does He Laugh at Our Plans?

Jews who spoke the Yiddish tongue in Europe often quoted the adage, “Mann tracht un Gott lacht.” In English, “Man plans, and God laughs.” What really is God’s sense of humor?

Woody Allen also said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him about your plans.”

Each of us has our own set of plans. We envisioned ourselves as we progressed through life and as we “came.”

However, not everything was where it should have been when we arrived.

The course of events was not what we had planned. There were moments when it seemed like life was going in a completely different path, and many of us felt like we’d made a fool of ourselves.

Overall, we just fell short. It turns out that we’re not who we imagined ourselves to be. Nothing is going according to plan.

Does God Laugh At Us?

They say that you should share your intentions with Him if you’d like to witness God laugh. Our divine Parent knows our plots and chuckles at them as earthly parents snicker at their toddlers’.

Given his omniscience and omnipotence, God has no use for human input. He is in command of the situation.

God created us, understands what’s optimal for us, and loves unconditionally to let us accept anything other than His best. He, who is benevolent and giving, has even greater plans for us than we can imagine.

God, like any decent parent, is prepared to tell us “no” occasionally to bring us what’s beneficial for us, regardless of whether that implies we have tantrums.

When we refuse to put our faith in God’s promises and pursue His will, we end up wrecking our objectives.

Therefore, let us not oppose the Almighty. Instead, run to Him for safety because His intentions are always greater than ours.

How Can We Find God’s Intended Plan For Us?

Which path does God recommend? Where can you look for his will?

Upon trusting God as our guide, it is natural to want to follow his ways.

After all, we need direction if we’re following in his footsteps. This is how we learn what God wants for us.

Honor the mandates He has so far issued.

Is there anything God has told you to complete but keep putting off? Maybe you’re in an unfulfilling relationship or stuck in a career that’s taking its toll.

There may be some transgression from which you have not yet sought forgiveness.

No matter what it is, if He has ordered you to do it, His intentions for your destiny might be paused until that phase is fulfilled. The Deity we worship is patient and follows the rules.

He guides us but not excessively closely, lest we get ahead of ourselves. Taking the next logical action will allow Him to direct your next move.

Know His words, and you will know His presence.

This is an obvious fact. The living and eternal God has revealed Himself to us in His Word. He shows us what He wants as we study it.

Truths in familiar Bible tales are revealed when we pursue them expecting to receive something from Him.

When we try to read the Bible, He reveals important truths to us at precisely the right moments to enable us to live according to His will.

Spend purposeful, intimate time with Him.

One of the ways God shows what He wants for our existence is through prayer. If we are to hear from Him, there must be a reconfiguration of praying in our lives.

When we pray, we can take our worries to God.

We should spend most of that period seeking God’s will for our lives, whether for strategies to serve others or an overarching sense of direction.

Time spent in prayer’s stillness can serve as a frequency detector, and like a new season of a beloved TV show, experiencing God’s presence only once is never enough.

The best way to learn God’s will for your life is to have someone hold you accountable.

Someone holding you accountable can help you recalibrate your frequency and tune in to God’s will.

Do you know any Christians you admire, perhaps because they have achieved what you have sought and credit God with much of their success?

Contact them and see if they’d be willing to be your accountability companion. Share your aspirations with them and ask if they can help you identify any latent gifts you possess.

Submit your will to Him.

Are you clinging to the hope of a certain future? When we place too much importance on something, it may evolve into a false god.

Our hopes and aspirations are wonderful, but we can’t discern God’s will for our lives if we hold on to them more tightly than we hold on to Jesus.

Play the waiting game.

Our patience and trust in God are put to the test through waiting. Our frustration, anxiety, despair, and lack of faith in God can make all surface during waiting times.

God allows us to show our faithfulness and devotion during periods of patience, and we are commanded to be patient as He works out the details of our next move.

Faith in God is demonstrated by the optimism with which we face adversity. Through perseverance, we realize now is not the moment to lay back and wait for a response.

The goal is to fully develop the Christian, which means that God expects us to take part in the task He has for us.

Is God’s Plans Flawless?

Every potential outcome of creation, from its inception to the end of time, is known to God, making His design flawless.

To top it all off, He has predetermined the best possible ending for every possible course of events in all creation.

No matter which way you decide to navigate through life, God has a precise plan for you. It doesn’t matter what choices one makes in life; God’s plan will always be the best option.

No matter what happens, God’s design for the universe will be the best possible outcome.

Depending on the route taken, one’s existence may focus more on one’s own needs, those of one’s family, one’s career, one’s well-being, one’s community, one’s connections, etc., but God’s flawless design includes all of those outcomes.

God’s flawless plan is not the same thing as God’s will. We can find God’s will within his design. All intelligent creatures, whether human, angelic or otherwise, are subject to God’s will.

The power to decide based solely on one’s own volition rests with only these. Nature does not.

The design of God is flawless and spans the entirety of time and space. It’s completely unstoppable.

Regarding human beings, God’s will intersects with the concept of free will.

Even if God’s perfect will with an individual is not accomplished, God’s flawless plan still contains the outcome of every human manifestation.

It is up to the individual to decide whether God’s flawless design is gracious (heaven) or wicked (hell).

An individual may be inside or outside of “the will of God,” but God’s plan for them is unmovable.

God’s plan considers every conceivable outcome for his universe and its inhabitants. No matter how the universe unfolds, God’s design is flawless.
